Many conditions must be met in order for a

sperm fertilize an egg.

The semen volume should be at least 2 milliliters. Each milliliter contains around 20 million sperm.

The sperm must be able to swim well in order to move up the cervix, then the tubes, then the oocyte. If more than 50% of the sperm have good mobility (called progressive mobility) the sperm is considered normal.

Cervical mucus is a great help for the spermatozoa: it facilitates their access to the tubal region and it forms a filter that helps eliminate the weak or abnormal.

Sperm should not be clumped together as this prevents their progression to the egg.
